Aren’t you glad the Democrats are in charge?
The article at the Jerusalem Post notes:
Seventeen blown apart shopping in Istanbul; eight children gunned down at a Jerusalem school; 58 slaughtered in front of the Indian Embassy in Kabul. These are just some examples of the terrorist atrocities that plagued the world in the past year. Yet NGO superpower Human Rights Watch, winner of this year’s UN Prize for Human Rights, did not find these incidents of mass murder and violations of the most sacred of human rights, the right to life, significant enough to merit a single comment. Instead, it spends millions attacking Western democracies for doing their best to protect civil liberties and fight terror in an age where its perpetrators have no respect for human life and are driven purely by hate and religious fanaticism.
Just another leftist anti-American, anti-Israel, pro-selfhateing bunch. You go to their website just today (find it on your own – I don’t want to give them any help) and there are links about how US Trade shouldn’t actually expand (and therefore make everyone in the world better off), bashing Israel over Palestinian land rights (and saying nothing about the murder of Jews by Palestinians at all), blah blah blah blah. Pick your liberal shibboleth and there is your link.
Just as Amnesty International is concerned only with American violations of terrorist rights, so Human Rights Watch becomes yet nother turd in the bucket of liberal organizations.
We’re in deep trouble, folks, when people with this woman’s mindset have control of our government. She has let us know exactly what she thinks about our Constitution, and she has no problem publicly spitting on it.
Pittsburgh City Council gave its first approval today to legislation requiring that anyone report a lost or stolen firearm report that within 24 hours or potentially face a $500 fine. The 6-1 vote, with two abstentions, sets up a final vote likely next week, which would send the legislation to Mayor Luke Ravenstahl for his signature or veto, and then potentially to the courts, where similar measures have been challenged.
“Who really cares about it being unconstitutional?” said Councilwoman Tonya Payne, a supporter. “This is what’s right to do, and if this means that we have to go out and have a court battle, then that’s fine … We have plenty of dead bodies coming up in our streets every single day, and that is unacceptable.”
The lone no vote was by Councilman Ricky Burgess, who argued that it would be a “false cure” that would be “particularly cruel” to his violence-plagued northeastern Pittsburgh district.
Rather than working within the bounds of the law and their constituents’ civil rights, Ms. Payne thinks she can just ignore them at will. Who cares about this thing called the Constitution of the United States. She thinks she should be able to pass whatever laws she wants whenever she wants. As far as she’s concerned, her good intentions are all that matter, the Constitution be damned.
The thinking on health care goes like this:
1. Health care is a right (of course you can’t find that right in the Constitution anywhere, but that’s the premise)
2. The government should pay for everybody’s health care
Doesn’t that lend itself to:
1. Gun ownership is a right (which you can actually read in the Constitution)
2. The government should buy everybody guns
1. Free Speech is a right (again listed right there)
2. The government should furnish everyone a newspaper with with to practice their free speech. or a radio station or a tv station
And the Europeans are so glad when they can get Americans to publicly bash their own country. But to do it while praising the gimme gimme society at the same time is a twofer:
In a few weeks, my daughter will begin nursery with the help of a generous government grant – a privilege she wouldn’t have in the US, where children begin public education when they are five.
With the US presidential race gearing up for the fall, I am continually amazed at how little support or even attention is paid to social services – from welfare to maternity leave – that are standard issue in almost every other developed country, but essentially non existent in America. National Geographic recently surveyed 168 countries and found that America was one of only five countries that did not give mothers any paid maternity leave – right up there with Swaziland, Papua New Guinea and Lesotho.
Because we all know that the reason that we fought and died in excising tyranny from America was so you and your like could coerce the productive citizens to pay for your babysitting and maternity leave. The slogan was “United we stand, divided we end up having to pay for babysitting and maternity leave ourselves”.
Its probably in the Constitution that the “right” to paid maternity leave exists – next to that penumbra that gives the “right” to murder babies.
