Anybody Who Believes This Is Crazy

The wonderful and smart people at the Department of Helpless Hopeless and Stupid came out with a real corker today:

Dr. David Blumenthal, the Obama administration’s National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, said on Tuesday that patients can choose to omit procedures such as abortions and positive HIV tests from the electronic health records (EHR) that every American is supposed to have by 2014 under the terms of the economic stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed last year.

Oh really?  Just last week they were indicating that you would be REQUIRED to have your BMI in your electronic health records (EHR), but you wouldn’t have to have the results of your HIV test or whether you had an abortion? Are these the only two types of things that you would be able to remove from your EHR?  What about treatment for drug addition?  What about if you have genital warts?  If you suffer from the heartbreak of psoriasis can you exclude this from your records?

Of course, what they got railroaded into was being politically correct with abortion and HIV.  Here’s what the appointed bamboozler had to say:

Blumenthal said, “Any specific information recorded in the record is an issue between the doctor and the patient, not an issue that this regulation specifies.”

Obviously they are just giving themselves hiney cover.  Your records will be chock-a-block full of every single procedure and test and treatment you will receive till the end of your life.  They may give some lip service that you will be able to choose what is or isn’t in your EHR, but the whole idea of the EHR is that the government has every single piece of information about you in order to make sure you receive appropriate “treatment”.  And if your HIV status is “optional”, then the whole thing is just a big waste of time and money.

As I said, if you believe this you would probably be willing to buy the Brooklyn Bridge.  I can get it for you cheap.
