Jamacian Bomber

Trying to board a flight in Orlando yesterday:

The man accused of trying to carry bomb components onto a airplane at Orlando International Airport told investigators he going to blow up a tree stump in Jamaica, but later said he was going to show friends how to build explosives “like he saw in Iraq.”

A federal complaint filed against Brown charged that he was carrying components for pipe bombs, two Vodka bottles filled with nitromethane, BB pellets, a rocket igniter, several batteries, lighter fluid and instructions on how to make explosives, according to FBI task force agent Kelly Boaz, who is assigned to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputy and bomb technician assigned to the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Boaz wrote that nitro-methane in combination with the rocket igniter, acting as a wick, could have created an incendiary device.

I wonder when they will report that he changed his name recently to Mohammad al-Jihadi?

Monitoring

Personally, I don’t think this is such a bad thing:

It turns out the feds have been monitoring Interstate 5 for nuclear “dirty bombs.” They do it with radiation detectors so sensitive it led to the following incident.

“Vehicle goes by at 70 miles per hour,” Giuliano told the crowd. “Agent is in the median, a good 80 feet away from the traffic. Signal went off and identified an isotope [in the passing car].”

The agent raced after the car, pulling it over not far from the monitoring spot (near the Bow-Edison exit, 18 miles south of Bellingham). The agent questioned the driver, then did a cursory search of the car, Giuliano said.

Did he find a nuke?

“Turned out to be a cat with cancer that had undergone a radiological treatment three days earlier,” Giuliano said.

Actually I’m amazed that the feds are actually doing anything.  Of course the weenies at the Seattle “Would invading my privacy in this way allow the feds to find my dope stash?” Times are wetting themselves at the thought that someone might actually be watching our borders for smuggled nuclear material.  Of course they then prove the point that monitoring might actually be good by this little nugget at the bottom of the article:

Giuliano says the point really is to catch terrorists. He says it’s true that the odds of catching one here may be “a billion to one. But despite that, we have caught two.” (Gazi Ibrahim Abu Mezer, who tried to sneak in at Blaine in 1997 to blow up the New York subway; and Millennium Bomber Ahmed Ressam, nabbed at Port Angeles in 1999.)

Don’t you just wonder what those two have in common besides trying to sneak into this country to kill people?  I wonder what kind of profile they might fit if we were to profile those who wanted to sneak into this country to commit mass murder?

And if they can find a cat who had a cancer treatment three days ago – just why can’t they find whole human beings who are crossing the southern border illegally?  The answer is that they could if they wanted to–they just don’t want to find those kind of people.

Another Reason We Need to Start Enforcing Our Immigration Laws

And you can already hear the excuses – they were just doing the jobs Americans wont do. We shouldn’t actually enforce our laws, it will just make them angry. Social security number verification is racist. Citizenship verification is racist. Everything is racist.

CHICAGO—Nearly two dozen illegal immigrants were arrested Wednesday, accused of using fake security badges to work in critical areas of O’Hare International Airport, including the tarmac, authorities said.
Much of the investigation centered on the airport security badges issued by the Department of Aviation, said U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald. Agents found that 110 of the 134 badges issued to Ideal Staffing workers did not match the individuals who carried them, he said.
According to affidavits in a complaint against Gurin and Benitez unsealed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, the applications for the 110 bogus badges listed Social Security numbers that either did not exist or belonged to other individuals, some of whom were dead.
One affidavit from a temporary worker who cooperated with authorities said Benitez told him to look through a box containing about 20 airport security badges and to pick one with a picture that resembled his own face.

Illegals Using Fake Badges To Work At O’Hare

The 23 illegal workers were employed by Ideal Staffing Solutions Inc., whose corporate secretary and office manager also were arrested after an eight-month investigation that involved federal, state and Chicago authorities.
The company contracted work for carriers including United Airlines, KLM and Qantas, said Elissa A. Brown, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.

“The investigation identifies a vulnerability that could compromise national security, while bringing criminal charges against individuals who built an illegal work force into their business practice,” Brown said.
Ideal Staffing officials did not return a telephone message left after business hours Wednesday by The Associated Press.

Mary Gurin, 36, of Carpentersville, and Norinye Benitez, 24, of Franklin Park, were each charged with one federal count of harboring illegal immigrants for gain and one federal count of misuse of Social Security numbers.
Benitez is believed to be an illegal immigrant from Mexico, and Gurin employed her and signed her airport badge application while knowing her illegal status, Brown said.
