Bravo to Congressman Campbell:
California Republican John Campbell yesterday introduced in the House his “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is Act,” which would amend the tax code to allow individuals to make voluntary donations to the federal government above their normal tax liability. The bill would place a new line on IRS tax forms to make this easy.
Mr. Campbell says he has heard the “cries” of those wealthy Americans – Mrs. Clinton, Warren Buffett, Barbra Streisand – who reject the lower tax rates passed in 2001 and 2003 and complain that they and their fellow rich don’t pay enough. “It’s a great injustice that citizens wishing to fulfill their dream of paying more taxes cannot simply check a box on their 1040 form to make a donation,” he says. His bill would give liberals a chance to salve their consciences without having to raise taxes on millions of Americans who already feel overtaxed as it is.
My simple predictions:
1. The Democrats will never let this bill see any light of day. it will be holed up in some House subcommittee undergoing “review” till this Congress is history. It would be a most dangerous thing for Democrats to actually give people the freedom to make their own choices – especially about how much of their hard earned money goes to the government. Allowing people to choose this essential hold over their lives would absolutely destroy the whole premise of what the Democrats stand for. They are about controlling people – not giving them choice.
2. Why is Warren Buffett giving most of his money to Bill Gates’s charity instead of just handing it over to the government? He wants rich people to pay more in taxes – why is he not giving the earnings of his lifetime to some twits who would spend in all in less than a month?
3. As a thought experiment – just how much money would actually come in if this box were on the 1040 form making it extremely simple to allow good progressives to put their money where their considerable mouths are? The Treasury got about $2.9 million in contributions last year. The US governnment is scheduled to spend $3 trillion dollars in FY2008. My calculations show that as spending $5,707,762 a minute. Yes, every minute of every day of every week of every month of the whole year. So that lousy three million in contributions would only fund the government for 30 seconds odd. Do you think they would get enough in “contributions” to fund 2 minutes? I certainly don’t think they would. Maybe, just maybe they might get enough for 1 minute.
4. And don’t forget – you are not paying enough in taxes. The Obamamessiah says so. The Hildebeast says so. The Great and Wonderous Algore certainly says so. But would they give half their estates directly to the governement?
Let’s see – how about the one where a poor pregnant woman was denied care and both she and her baby died?
Sen. Hillary Clinton will stop telling an emotional story about a uninsured pregnant woman who died after being denied medical care, Clinton’s campaign said.
In the story, Clinton describes a woman from rural Ohio who was making minimum wage at a local pizza shop. The woman, who was uninsured, became pregnant.
Clinton said the woman ran into trouble and went to a hospital in a nearby county but was denied treatment because she couldn’t afford a $100 payment.
In her speeches, Clinton said the woman later was taken to the hospital by ambulance and lost the baby. The young woman was then taken by helicopter to a Columbus hospital where she died of complications.
Just one little problem with all that of course:
Hospital Chief Executive Officer Rick Castrop in a statement said, “we reviewed the medical and patient accounts of the patient” after she was named in a newspaper story about Clinton’s stump speech.
“There is no indication that she was ever denied medical care at any time, for any reason. We clearly reject any perception that we ever denied any care to this woman.”
A hospital spokesperson confirmed to CNN the woman had insurance. She said the hospital decided to come forward after people in the community began to question if they had denied her care.
Its always so horrible when people start checking up on these things. I really think the issue is that the Clintons could always get away with this before because the media would hide it for them. Now a) the media is for Obama and b) independent fact checkers can get their stories out via the web.
But the excuse given is “we got told this and didn’t have any reason to disbelieve it”.
Isn’t this what they accuse President Bush of doing with the Iraq War intelligence?
However, the real whopper of the weekend is this one:
Clinton told a convention of Democrats in North Dakota when her tax forms were made public: “Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against rich people. As a matter of fact my husband, much to my surprise and his, has made a lot of money since he left the White House by doing what he loves most – talking to people.”
Surprise? You and ex-President Pantsdown have been grubbing for every penny for years. I don’t care if you earned the money – I wish you had earned twice as much. It depresses me that there are enough idiots who will willingly pay you two to lie to them, but that’s another story. Just don’t tell us you are “surprised”.
She is stiffing caterers, lighting companies, and all kinds of companies. Are the health insurance bills for all her campaign workers being paid? Inquiring minds what to know. Especially since she is threatening to throw people in jail if they don’t buy health insurance from HER.
Of course, her health care is paid for by taxpayers. If anything were to happen Walter Reed would open its loving arms and give her anything she wanted. I wonder if her campaign staff would be forced to go to emergency rooms to wait?
Or maybe she’s just waiting to make this happen:
In an extensive interview on health policy on Wednesday, Clinton, a Democrat from New York, said she would like to cap health insurance premiums at 5 percent to 10 percent of income.
It would then be the responsibility of all her employees to fend for themselves, right Senator?
I sure wish I could think of good things like these from Frank J:
Now, the most obvious solution is putting them in some sort of cage with weaponry where only one leaves. I don’t think this will work for the Democrats, though, because they won’t think Obama with his saccharine message of hopey change can stand up to the vicious Hillary who has long thirsted for his blood. Instead, they need to compete on a plane Democrats are more familiar with.
How about they are each given a billion dollars in tax money, and whoever spends it all the first wins. They can’t just spend it on military weaponry (and, being Democrats, they wouldn’t want to), and instead have to spend it all on wasteful, counterproductive social programs. That would prove which one of them is the most hardcore Democrat.
Also, they could get a group of foreigners and Obama and Hillary could compete on who could befriend the most. Having foreigners like us is of the utmost concern to Democrats.
Michelle has lots of good stuff:
