General Motors has 96,000 employees but provides health benefits to more than a million people. They can never sell enough cars to make that math add up. In fact, selling cars doesn’t help, as they lose money on each model.
GM is a welfare project masquerading as economic activity. And, after the Obama transformation, America will be, too.
The young need to recognize that this is their fight. They need to stop chanting along with the hopeychangey dirges and do something more effective, like form the anti-AARP: The association of Americans who’ll never be able to retire.
Just between you, me, and the old, the late middle-aged and the early middle-aged – isn’t it terrific to be able to stick it to the young? I mean, imagine how bad all this economic-type stuff would be if our kids and grandkids hadn’t offered to pick up the tab.
Well, OK, they didn’t exactly “offer” but they did stand around behind Barack Obama at all those campaign rallies helping him look dynamic and telegenic and earnestly chanting hopey-hopey-changey-changey. And “Yes, we can!” Which is a pretty open-ended commitment.
because he can just switch on the news and every week there’s his plucky little hero Big Government facing the same old crisis: Why, there’s yet another exciting spending bill with 12 zeroes on the end
If you’re an 18-year-old middle-class hopeychanger, look at the way your parents and grandparents live: It’s not going to be like that for you. You’re going to have a smaller house and a smaller car – if not a basement flat and a bus ticket.
I’m just so happy that the Stimulus Bill has been signed (in my very own state no less) that I just know this is going to become a national holiday. Decades from now people will look back on this day and see the moment with the earth was healed, the oceans stopped rising, and everybody started farting rainbows. And I don’t mean metaphysical “happiness” rainbows. I mean actual rays of refracted light emenating from the orifices of every man, woman, and child in America. Of course, I haven’t actually seen any of these farted rainbows yet, but that could simply mean I haven’t been in the presence of anyone with gas. Or anyone with happy stimulus gas.
Of course, no one has really read the whole stimulus bill and therefore knows a) what it really spends b) what regulations and destruction of sections of the economy will occur nor c) just how Republicans will be punished for not supporting the will of the Chosen Ones of Democrat. We know that Republicans will be punished for not supporting the The Messiah. Obama is perfect in all he says and does, and those who oppose him must be punished.
But back to happy thoughts. Are you one of the 95% of Americans who will be getting a tax cut? Well, perhaps you are. But its really impossible right now to tell if you are one of the happy, happy bunch who will be getting tax relief. In fact, even if you don’t pay any income taxes you will be getting a tax refund check. This is not a welfare check – no, no, no. Those who say that getting a check when you didn’t pay any tax are Republicans and Republicans will be punished. What we have is happy bunny checks coming to everybody. Happy, happy bunnies. Bunnies that multiply into stimulus for the economy. $13 a week according to most reports. That’s really happy.
And who do we have to thank for the rainbows and bunnies? Well, this woman for one:
Aren’t you reassured to know that she is third in line to succeed to the Presidency of the United States? Isn’t that yet another thought to be happy about on this Happy Stimulus Day.
The website Face the State has some very interesting information about the place where the generational theft bill called Stimulus was signed today:
With a stroke of the pen today, President Barack Obama will enact the largest single federal spending package in history. He will do so inside Denver’s Museum of Nature and Science, a facility heavily subsidized by Denver taxpayers and one that stands in stark contrast with Obama’s own pledges regarding open government.
The museum is the single largest recipient of grant money from the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District, a multi-county sales tax district created by the state. In 2008, the DMNS was budgeted to receive nearly $7 million in appropriations, although little information is available as to how exactly this money is spent. Despite receiving significant annual funding from taxpayers, the museum is tight-lipped as to its operations and expenses, citing its status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
Taxpayers are expected to cough up the cash. How its actually spent it none of their business. Oh and when it comes to that tax thing:
The museum came under fire in 2007 for donating $300,000 to a successful campaign to raise Denver property taxes by $500 million, $30 million of which will flow back to the DMNS. Museum officials said at the time that the political contribution came from ticket sales and other visitor revenue, not public funds. Without basic information as to the non-profit’s finances, however, Face The State is unable to independently verify the museum’s claims.
Unfortunately you read that right. This bunch of thieves used Denver’s very own tax money to sell a tax increase. Pretty good return at 10,000%. But did the voters know that their own money was being used to sell them a huge tax increase?
In his comments today urging his fellow Senators to waste $1 trillion of your money, John Kerry* made the following slip:
I’ve supported many tax cuts over the years, and there are tax cuts in this proposal. But a tax cut is non-targeted.
If you put a tax cut into the hands of a business or family, there’s no guarantee that they’re going to invest that or invest it in America.
They’re free to go invest anywhere that they want if they choose to invest.
It is rare that Democrats actually come out against freedom in actual words – although every action they take is to limit dangerous things like personal liberty.
We all know from his failed Presidential campaign that John Kerry is an elitist snob who tends to marry money (big fracking gobs of it), so he is obviously much more qualified than any American family to spend their money wisely. After all, he got elected Senator didn’t he? Doesn’t that confer upon him Olympian powers of wisdom?
* John Kerry may or may not have been in Cambodia, but he did serve in Vietnam before throwing some kind of medals over the fence of the White House.
Death and Doom forecast by Governor Ritter. The Colorado State budget has to be cut by $1 billion! Except for this:
The proposals, which the legislature is expected to begin debating in early February, represent an 8.7 percent cut from the $7.9 billion general-fund budget proposal for 2009-10 that Ritter submitted on Nov. 1.
The reconfigured $7.26 billion general-fund proposal for next year represents almost no growth for the $7.24 budget approved for the 2007-08 fiscal year.
Yes, you read that right. The state is proposing to spend $20 million more in 2009-2010 than 2007-2008.
Only in the twisted reality of politicans is spending more money a cut. Its less than what the Governor and Democrats WANT to spend – so its a cut. Do you want to know what a budget cut is? Its when you spend LESS than the year before.
Try it sometime Governor.
P.S. How much blame will be piled on TABOR for this cut which is an increase in spending?
