Fiscal Liberals

Interesting that with Kaleefornia having a raft of tax-raising, green power mandating, budget busting initiatives on its ballot, Pravda By the Bay finds fiscal problems with these two:

Prop. 6 would increase an array of sentences on crimes related to street gangs, drug dealing and guns. For example, a gang member convicted of a violent felony would get an extra 10 years in prison. Accomplices in crimes in which a gun was used – such as a drive-by shooting – would be subjected to the same enhanced penalties as the shooter. It would increase the penalties on gang-related graffiti and prohibit illegal immigrants arrested for violent felonies or gang crimes from being released on bail without a hearing.

Prop. 9, designed to strengthen the rights of victims and to make it more difficult to release inmates from prison, also would have an enormous budget impact. It expands the victims’ rights that were approved by voters in 1982.

Now, their opposition isn’t to the idea of putting and keeping criminals in prison.  That just sort of skates by.  The big problem that Pravda has with this is it would cost money to keep these thugs in prison.

May I ask a question here – if its too expensive to provide safety for your citizens, then just what in the world do you think government is for?  Its rather obvious that keeping the murderers, rapists, and thugs out of the society of those who want to live in lawful peace just is too much of a stretch for a government that sponsors state-paid day care.

Again – we only hope that Kaleefornia keeps up the crazy.  Raise taxes, put impossible mandates in place, increase regulation, implement the whole of the progressive agenda.

We can always use the business here in Colorado.

Credentials

So if you have served as

  • A prosecutor in the Missouri Attorney General’s office
  • Assistant Secretary of Education
  • Head of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
  • Served for a year on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals
  • Written a best-selling book
  • Served as a Supreme Court Justice for 17 years

You are unqualified to be a Supreme Court Justice.

But if you have

  • served 143 days in the US Senate
  • served in the Illinois State Senate
  • been a community organizer

You are qualified to be President of the United States.

Just don’t ask me about when a baby gets to have human rights.

British Police Attacked by Mob

Of course as Rachel Lucas points out – unarmed police are about as useless as tits on a bull if the mob decides that they don’t want to obey them:

For the love of God, Britain. You really, really, really, really need to grow your balls back.

A good first step would be to arm your police. I know it sounds all hillbillyish and redneckian, but there’s something called “deterrence.” It’s this crazy concept we uncivilized rubes over here in ‘Murrica apply in order to give our law enforcement the ability to, you know, enforce the law.

But the wimps there have learned their lessons.  For example they don’t want to use the word MOB (as in group of people rioting against the public order and beating up two cops) because that might be inflammatory:

Whilst we would never use the word ‘mob’ which is an inflammatory word, we can confirm that eye witnesses have described their initial fear that officers were going to be seriously injured or killed.”

and Rachel shows what will probably be the followup:

I expect the followup article to this one to explain how the injured officers are being sued for inflaming the rage of the crowd, and maybe even a few arrests will be made of the witnesses for hate speech because they described the scene as “horrifying.”

The British do make a habit of locking up people who actually defend themselves and their property.

Get out while you can – those of you who don’t want to be paying jizya in a few years.

McCain and Judges

So he gives some speech about judges?  And that means conservatives will just bow down for him?  How about reviewing some actions of Mr. McCain:

  • He considered Samuel Alito a problematic nominee because “he wears his conservatism on his sleeve”
  • He has so little regard for the Constitution that he will work with any Democrat he can find to despoil it in the name of Campaign Finance Reform
  • He thinks that people will believe that amnesty for illegal aliens isn’t amnesty if he makes them pay money for it.  (that’s called extortion in normal circles and its a crime!)
  • He will actually attend the Mexican Nazi Party conference (otherwise known as La Raza)

And some lousy speech is supposed to reassure us?

Here’s Effective Policing

Just why does Oslo have a police force if this is all they do?

A new report by the justice minister, Knut Storberget, shows that 99.2 percent of all serious robberies on the streets of Oslo are never solved.

Last year, 11,033 crimes were reported, but just 80 were solved.

And the wave of robberies is increasing rapidly. Yesterday 33 people were the victims of serious crimes in Oslo. In the first three months of 2008, serious robberies in public places have increased by 10 percent.

Many city officials blame the increase in crime on begging and prostitution by people from other lands, mostly Eastern Europe.

A ban on begging in the streets was lifted in 2005.

But while the criminals go free, the politicians and police argue about what can be done. City Council head Erling Lae has sent a letter to the justice minister asking that “pågående” (insistent, or aggressive) begging and prostitution be forbidden.

Aggressive Prostitution? Well, Oslo is a nice liberal place now – with a crime rate four times that of New York City. It just seems that being a law-abiding citizen and living there isn’t too pleasant. However, since they apparently do nothing to actually prevent any crime or track down any criminals its probably a pretty cushy job to be a policeman there.

Democrats Sue To Stop Border Fence

Have I told you lately that I hate You?

Fourteen House Democrats, including eight committee chairmen, said yesterday that they will file a brief supporting a legal challenge to the Bush administration’s plans to finish building 470 miles of fencing and other barriers on the U.S.-Mexico border by the end of the year.

Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.) led the group, which includes the heads of the energy and commerce, transportation, intelligence, education, rules, and veteran affairs panels.

Defenders of Wildlife and the Sierra Club asked the Supreme Court last month to review whether the administration’s decision to waive environmental laws to finish the fence is constitutional. That waiver was approved by the Republican-led Congress in 2005.

Do you believe this is really about environmental issues?

This is an outright and blatant push to overturn the legislative will of the vast majority of the American people – because these twits somehow think that this will get them the illegal immigrant vote.  That they think there IS an illegal immigrant vote also says a lot about their push to prevent people from having to provide identification at the polls.

At some point the American people will become fed up with this continual push to use the courts to overturn the express will of the people and their representatives.  Fourteen Democrat congressmen can sue and stop the government from fulfilling the wishes of the people?  They can tie this issue up in the courts for decades – and what do they care?  They don’t live next to the border with people running through their lands, stealing things, defecating on the ground and shooting at anyone who might interfere with them.  They live in nice gated communities with walls and alarm systems and peace and quiet.
