Robot Marriage – The Next Frontier in Civil Rights?

And will there be a race between Vermont, Massachusetts, and California as to which state will recognize the rights of robots to marry and visit their sick spouses in the hospital?  Because discrimination against the non-living diminishes us all.

David Levy, a British artificial intelligence researcher at the college, wrote in his thesis, “Intimate Relationships with Artificial Partners,” that trends in robotics and shifting attitudes on marriage are likely to result in sophisticated robots that will eventually be seen as suitable marriage partners.
The thesis examines human attitudes toward affection, love and sexuality and concluded that the findings are just as applicable to human interaction with robots of the future as they are to the relationships between humans of today.

The Biggest Threat To The World Today

From Czeck President Vaclav Klaus:

“As someone who lived under communism for most of his life, I feel obliged to say that I see the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity now in ambitious environmentalism, not in communism. This ideology wants to replace the free and spontaneous evolution of mankind by a sort of central (now global) planning.”

Honestly.  Would you actually want a pompous windbag like Al Gore running the globe?  Or any twit from the United Nations?   And why would Al be afraid to debate Mr. Klaus?

Gore’s reluctance to go toe-to-toe with global warming skeptics may have something to do with the – from the standpoint of climate change alarmists – unfortunate outcome of a global warming debate in New York last March. In the debate, a team of global warming skeptics composed of MIT scientist Richard Lindzen, University of London emeritus professor of biogeology Philip Stott, and physician-turned novelist/filmmaker Michael Crichton handily defeated a team of climate alarmists headed by NASA scientist Gavin Schmidt. Before the start of the nearly two-hour debate, the audience of several thousand polled 57.3 percent to 29.9 percent in favor of the proposition that global warming is a “crisis.” At the end of the debate, the numbers had changed dramatically, with 46.2 percent favoring the skeptical point of view and 42.2 percent siding with the alarmists.

Government Makework – Increases Global Warming

Legislation that will increase the amount of trees used, the number of people working on, and the money wasted on this issue.

Governor Eliot Spitzer Friday signed legislation requiring that automobile manufacturers affix “global warming index” stickers to new cars and passenger trucks beginning in the 2010 model year. The stickers will detail carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted by operating the vehicle.
The index will be based on emissions of carbon dioxide, a major contributor to warming temperatures worldwide, in addition to methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulfur hexafluoride. All six gases are governed by the Kyoto Protocol.
Each sticker will include an index that compares the emissions of global warming gases from the vehicle with the average projected emissions from all vehicles of the same model year, and identifies the vehicle model within its class with the lowest emissions of that model year.

French Farmer Commits Suicide Because of Anti-Globalization Protests

Well, if they were going to rip out his crops and the authorities wouldn’t do anything about it, what else was he to do? I hope this pulicity hound creep Bove gets what he deserves soon.

Jos Bov驮 and his minions have hounded to death a French farmer who committed suicide when he learned that Jos and his civil disobedience road show would soon make a swing by his farm and rip some genetically modified corn out of the ground. Between the impending “Have a nice day” vandalism of his hard labor by Jos’s crew and the inevitable non-response of the authorities, he decided to snuff himself.

People Hate to Pay Taxes

But that’s not the finding from the New Scientist.  They claim that people just love to pay taxes – based on one study which is completely torn about here by NewsBusters:

Let’s review the method to see further mistakes in logic. They GAVE $100 to 19 female STUDENTS. Those two words in caps further disqualifies the study as presenting any legitimate finding.

Problem #1- GAVE

These girls were not spending their own hard earned money. It was money that was simply handed to them with no efforts on their part past signing up for the study. These girls had no emotional attachment to the money, no sense of having earned it, no real assumptions that it was “theirs” at all. It was merely Monopoly money used for this study in their minds. It should be no surprise, then, that these subjects had no adverse reaction to the “spending” of their $100 on taxes.

Problem #2 STUDENTS

Chances are, the bulk of these same girls don’t work for a living, either. So, their experience with earning money that they are utterly dependent upon for themselves and their family is also an emotional concern they are not accustomed to. They are probably taken care of by grants, loans and parents’ funds, so they have little understanding of the “worth” of the $100 they were handed.

This is almost the textbook definition of junk science.  Setup the conditions to simulate charitable giving and pretend it is taxes – then issue a claim that will be jumped on by the dead stream media to support some liberal line of thought.

Taxes are a necessary evil – we need to defend the country (which might actually include controlling our borders but that’s another issue), run the courts and prisons, and keep liberals away from sharp pointy objects which might hurt them.  But once the Social Security system starts going negative on revenue in 2017, we are all going to get completely overwhelmed.
