Everything Belongs to Government – They Will Decide What You Get

This is apparently a straightforward proposal from a supposedly “free” country:

The UK’s tax collection agency is putting forth a proposal that all employers send employee paychecks to the government, after which the government would deduct what it deems as the appropriate tax and pay the employees by bank transfer.

Of course, this presupposes:

  • all money belongs to government
  • all taxpayers are cheats who are keeping the government from all the money they are owed
  • only government can understand what part of your money you actually need
  • increasing taxes will be very simple with this system
  • you are a groveling peasant who owes your very existence to the state

Would anybody please explain how this is much different from communism?  Shoot – even Cuba is cutting people off the government payrolls.  But this supposedly “free” “Western” “free market” country could actually propose this as any action government would be allowed to perform?

Well Britain has been circling the drain for a long time, if they actually do this you can simply write them off as lost to civilization.

Nanny Insanity – Remove Your Doormats

I guess this is a preview of coming attractions – but from the UK we get:

Housing officials have ordered tenants to remove welcome mats from their doorsteps – claiming they are health and safety hazards.

Residents received a letter saying the mats were potentially dangerous and were being banned, amid fears people might trip over them and sue for damages.

The note read: ‘(Doormats) being left in communal areas is a serious health and safety issue and is a fire safety risk.’

At what point does this insanity end.  Should everyone be bubble-wrapped?  I love the government excuse given:

Guy Cresswell, director of housing services at Great Places Housing Group, said: ‘Government legislation requires us to carry out fire risk assessments and to comply in full with recommendations made.

‘This work has been carried out for us by expert independent assessors. Our fire risk assessor recommended that doormats outside of people’s homes at Gaskell Rise should be removed because people could trip up over them.

The people living there think its insane, but they have no recourse.  So the mats go.

Stop Girl From Being Tied Up and Beaten – and Now Fired From Job

So let’s run a little simulation.  You are the lunch lady at an elementary school.  You are going through the yard of said school and find 4 boys have tied a girls hands and feet and are whipping her with a jump rope.  You stop them, untie the girl, report the kids to the principal.

To my mind that’s pretty heroic.  Whether its a girl or a boy being beaten with a rope it might be a good thing.

Then later that week you see the girl’s parents in the local grocery store and you tell them you were so sorry that the incident had happened.  Unfortunately it turns out that the school authorities are lying pigs and they hadn’t informed the parents about what actually happened.  It was a “jump rope incident” and the terrified girl hadn’t told her parents the whole truth (maybe because she was intimidated by the authorities?).  The parents are rightly outraged at not being told just how serious an incident this is and they go to the pusillanimous  dirtbags at the school to ask what had happened and why they were lied to.

And the only action that the school administation takes is to FIRE YOU!

Sound impossible – not in what used to be Great Britain.

When staff at Great Tey Primary School, near Colchester in Essex, discovered what she had done, she was accused of breaching pupil confidentiality and suspended.

Compare and Contrast

Earlier this year it was reported that the London borough of Haringey had used a spy plane to record residents’ energy use patterns:

Thermal images of homes have been taken by a light aircraft fitted with military spy technology to record the heat escaping from people’s houses.Maps identifying individual homes have now been placed on the internet to encourage occupiers to reduce their wastage and carbon emissions by fitting insulation and turning the thermostat down.

More specifically:

An aircraft, fitted with a military-style thermal imager, flew over the borough 17 times to take pictures of almost every house in the area.Footage of heat loss was converted into stills, then laid over a map of the area, before each house was given colour-coded ratings.

Homes that were losing the most heat were represented as bright red on the map. The least wasteful households were shown in deep blue. Shades of paler blues and reds were used to show grades of heat loss.

The Haringey heat map is now available online.

Creepy government intrusion.  Very Big Brother from the land of George Orwell.  So its just fine for government to actively snoop on your house.  And what happens when you drive down the street, record the images and make them available on the web?  How about this?

A formal complaint about Google’s Street View has been sent to the Information Commissioner (ICO).

Drawn up by lobby group Privacy International (PI), it cites more than 200 reports from members of the public identifiable via the service.

PI wants Street View shut down while the ICO investigates the service.

“The ICO has repeatedly made clear that it believes that in Street View the necessary safeguards are in place to protect people’s privacy,” said Google.

Privacy International (PI) director Simon Davies said his organisation had filed the complaint given the “clear embarrassment and damage” Street View had caused to many Britons.

Active government invasion of your privacy is OK, recording public views of the streets isn’t.

Britain is a strange, strange country any more.

Brown and Obama – VisionQuest

I ran across a great review of Gordon Brown and The Holy Messiah’s visions for the future by Janet Daley in the UK Telegraph:

Mr Obama – who gives the impression of being considerably out of his depth in the economic maelstrom – talks of an “opportunity” to “reorganise our priorities”. He gave a major speech last week in which he actually seemed to suggest that the present crisis had been caused by America’s failure to develop a universal health care system and to attend to the impending environmental disaster of global warming (“we made the wrong choices”), and that by focusing on these matters a way can be found out of the country’s economic problems.

Is he quite mad? Does he really believe that the banking crisis and the recession were some kind of divine retribution for the absence of universal health care, and excessive carbon emissions? Or is he suggesting that a practical solution lies in spending money on health care and the development of alternative energy sources?

Its a power grab and everyone knows it who is actually paying attention.  Here’s Mr. Brown’s vision for the future:

In Gordon Brown’s fantasy, this is an “opportunity” to exercise control over the whole world. Not just stricter regulation by national governments of their own economic institutions, but a wondrous new level of international regulation by supranational functionaries – to be appointed by whom? A World Government agency accountable to no electorate and with no democratic mandate from the populations over whom it will wield such power? Trotskyists used to say that Stalinist Russia had failed to achieve Utopia because it had embraced “socialism in one country” rather than going for “world revolution”. Now, we are being told that Labour’s market-led social justice programme failed because it opted for “regulation in one country” instead of understanding the need for “world regulation”.

Maybe being an ex-Marxist is a bit like being a lapsed Catholic: you never quite get rid of the old thought patterns.

In the more overheated renditions of the Brown theme, there is talk of a “global vision for fairness”, in which the very poverty that is being visited upon all the developed economies will somehow make it possible to redistribute wealth to the developing world.

And these wonderful visions of destroying rich countries in order to make everybody equally poor have been voted into office by a bunc h of idiots who somehow think they will get everything for “free”.  Free health care, free mortgages, car tires automatically inflated to the right pressure, free food, and all done by taking the money from the six evil rich people who control all the wealth.

Horse Pellets and Hockey Sticks.  We get what we deserve.

Global Warming Hits England

clipped from www.moonbattery.com
Wonderful news: Comrade Obama will has promised the USA will play a leading role in the struggle to “save the planet” from global warming, even if it means committing economic suicide. In other global warming news:

Icy winds and heavy snow storms swept across Britain today, causing chaos for drivers and closing hundreds of schools.

Thousands of children got a day off school as sub-zero temperatures and heavy snow forced around 200 schools in the North-West to close. … The first snow of this winter fell in England in October.

Meanwhile, society presses forward with plans to plunge itself into a long-term depression as a token gesture to avert a crisis that does not exist. Future generations will be left to figure out what made so many of us go so tragically insane.
