Australian Police – Your iPod Will Kill You

I just wonder how long an iPod lying there would last before somebody picked it up?

In a recently launched print campaign, created for the New South Wales Police by DDB Sydney, the message is clear: your iPod will kill you.
These ads are clearly ridiculous. If anyone offered me an iPod with headphone cords long enough to wrap a chalk line around someone, I’d save them the trauma of the accident and just murder them for it.
What I find most interesting about these ads are that they have an obvious iPod lying next to the corpse. I’m don’t know what Apple’s official feelings might be, but the online fan-geeks are already up in arms over the slandering of the beloved music player. Let’s face it: an iPod is now as necessary as a mobile phone.

Kangaroo Farts to Save the Planet

Kangaroo farts – the saving of the world.

clipped from www.news.com.au
AUSTRALIAN scientists are trying to give kangaroo-style stomachs to cattle and sheep in a bid to cut the emission of greenhouse gases blamed for global warming, researchers say.
Thanks to special bacteria in their stomachs, kangaroo flatulence contains no methane and scientists want to transfer that bacteria to cattle and sheep who emit large quantities of the harmful gas.
Researchers say the bacteria also makes the digestive process much more efficient and could potentially save millions of dollars in feed costs for farmers.
Another group of scientists, meanwhile, has suggested Australians should farm fewer cattle and sheep and just eat more kangaroos.
It might take a while for kangaroos to become popular barbecue fare, but with concern over global warming growing in the world’s driest inhabited continent, Australians could soon be ready to try almost anything to cut emissions.

John Howard to Amnesty International – Bugger Off!

Good on the man. He is willing to tell these freedom-hating idiots that countries like the US and Australia ARE free and can’t come close to being compared to North Korea or Iran or Zimbabwe or Cuba. Too bad we can’t get straight talk like this more often:

Prime Minister John Howard has robustly defended his Government against claims by Amnesty International that it is as divisive as Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s regime.

The human rights pressure group has accused Mr Howard of portraying asylum-seekers as a threat to national security.

In a report released overnight, it also criticised Australia’s role in the war on terror and its treatment of female victims of violence.

Amnesty secretary-general Irene Khan said the fear generated by leaders such as Mr Howard “thrives on myopic and cowardly leadership”.

Ms Khan lumped Mr Howard in with Mr Mugabe, US President George W Bush and Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir in a paragraph about leaders who used fear to suit their political agenda.

In statement today, Mr Howard rejected the way Australia was characterised in the Amnesty report.

“The report’s entry on Australia contains a string of assertions, unsupported by evidence and devoid of context,” he said.

“The report’s treatment of Australia amounts to little more than a shoddy caricature.

“Nowhere is the report’s political agenda clearer than the paragraph in its foreword which seeks to bracket Australian and US policies with the horrendous human rights situation in Darfur and Robert Mugabe’s disastrous misrule in Zimbabwe.”

Mr Howard said he respected Amnesty, but its current leadership had lost sight of the need for balance or rigour. “I believe many Australians will be as offended by this report as I am,” he said.

“My Government makes no apology for taking appropriate, balanced steps to protect the Australian public from the very real threat of terrorism and to protect our borders.”

Stop the Carnage

When will this senseless slaughter end?

A motorist has been killed by a cow that crushed the roof of his utility truck in Western Australia’s north.

Police believe the cow was standing in the middle of the road when the vehicle slammed into it sometime yesterday on the Exmouth to Minillya Road at Carnarvon.

A police spokeswoman says investigators suggest the impact flipped the cow onto the roof of the ute, crushing the 26-year-old driver.
