One Small Step – July 20, 1969

I remember running home from church and turning on the TV and watching that first step. I was a complete NASA geek at the time. I followed all the launches and walks and on the night Apollo 8 circled the moon Christmas Even 1968, I was in the back seat of our car. We were going to my Grandma Bea’s house for Christmas and I was looking at the big bright moon out of the back window and hearing them say “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”.

Weird to think they would be almost literally crucified for saying something like that today.

Today marks the anniversary of the first manned Moon landing. Those of us who are old enough to remember seeing it live can still recall the awe and wonder of that moment when Neil Armstrong stepped down and set foot where no man had gone before.
