Living Right under the Peak

Chucklehead Media Maven

Rescued from captivity where he was essentially starved. And his reaction?

- CBS News journalist Richard Butler said he believes he was kidnapped in Iraq by policemen with sympathies toward the Hezbollah but isn’t entirely sure who held him captive for two months or why.

Butler, a British journalist kidnapped with his interpreter on Feb. 10, was rescued by Iraqi troops on April 14 when he was found with a sack over his head in a house in Basra.

Butler said he felt it was better to be kidnapped in Iraq then taken into custody by Americans in Afghanistan.

“I was pleased I wasn’t being mortarboarded in Guantanamo or being held for six and a half years like an Al-Jazeera cameraman, for instance,” he said.

I tend to believe that mortarboarding is just someone misunderstanding waterboarding - unless the CIA has come up with a way to pound gypsum dust into the noses of these murdering turds at Gitmo.

But could there be any greater representation of the absolute anti-Americanism of the media?  And then they will 100% deny any sort of bias in their reporting.  Honestly - its too bad they found this idiot.  Better to let him experience the tender mercies of the Hezbos.

Update:

It was waterboarding - went to cbsnews:

Pizzey: You were saying it is better to be kidnapped by Shi’ites in southern Iraq than by Americans in Afghanistan.

Butler: I was pleased I wasn’t being waterboarded in Guantanamo or being held for six and a half years like an al Jazeera cameraman, for instance.

He’s still an anti-American donk too.

New Mexico - IED and Iraqi Dinars Found

In a stolen car that was actually found by its owner:

The car was reported stolen last week. After the theft, the car’s owner was fueling his motorcycle when he spotted his stolen car.

“While he was refueling his motorcycle, low and behold, the vehicle that he had reported stolen that belongs to him happened to pull into the gas station area also,” said Los Lunas Police Captain Charles Nuanes.

The car’s owner pulled the keys out of the ignition of his stolen car and the people in the car fled.

When police arrived, they found the explosive device and less than $1,000 worth of Iraqi cash.

So we have:

  • Explosive device
  • Iraqi Dinars (what good they would do in America - well, maybe they are worth more than the dollar now)
  • Thieves
  • Apparently really stupid thieves

And the conclusion by the FBI?  Who might be interested in explosive devices found on American soil:

The FBI is now involved in the theft of a car after it was found in Los Lunas with an explosive device and Iraqi currency inside

FBI agents say that they have ruled out terrorism.

“We don’t know what their intentions were,” said Nuanes. “We don’t know what they were planning on doing with any of this.”

They don’t know the intentions, but there is no terrorism?  Either the FBI is really trying to feed us a great big pile of feces or they think we are too stupid to actually understand this.  Either way it sure doesn’t raise my confidence in the FBI and their ability to protect us.

Another Outrage

Noted by the ever-watchful BlameBush blog:

In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 23, twelve Muslim men met quietly at a mosque in the Iraqi province of Diyala, perhaps to bid their final farewells to friends and family. Their nose hairs trimmed, monobrows plucked, and testicles cleanly shaven in accordance with Holy Quran, they had prepared themselves to make a dignified journey into the afterlife. Suddenly, and without even reading them their rights, Coalition Forces stormed the building and gunned them down in cold blood.

Where is the outrage?

Most of us would be appalled if U.S. soldiers burst in and mowed down our ailing grandmother just as Dr. Kevrokian was hooking her up to his wonderful gizmo. Yet no one bats an eye when it happens to TWELVE innocent - and let’s not forget suicidal men. If the gung-ho, trigger-happy, baby-killing fascists had just practiced a little self-restraint and waited another hour or two, they could’ve saved themselves a lot of time and valuable ammo. But thanks to our troops, twelve members of the Muslim community were denied Death With Dignity, and 876 virgins are now standing in the unemployment line.

Rules of Engagement

From Lt G at Kaboom - an encapsulated insight into how we are letting lawyers and back office idiots endanger our troops:

… the Iraq War has become so PC, so cluttered, so trigger-shy five years into the war, that any round fired – no matter how justified or understandable at the time of the incident – yields paperwork inquiries and scrutiny more fitting of a Senate Judiciary Committee report. Staff monkeys have found new purpose in this combat zone as Monday morning quarterbacks, conducting investigations with omnipotent spotlights to cut through the fog of war days after the storm passed.

I didn’t want to spend the next decade at Fort Leavenworth cutting stone, and certainly didn’t want any of my men to do that, either. Maybe that’s what would have happened if I had ordered them to shoot then. Maybe not. Anything now is just surmising, reflecting back with the benefit of hindsight on decisions made in mere seconds during a black tempest of confusion. We employed proper rules of engagement, just like we’re taught to by the Army lawyers hired to teach us how to avoid jail-time and war crimes and sensationalized scandals reported by a clueless, leaching mass media to an equally clueless public addicted to shock and awe. For every Abu-Ghraib there are hundreds of stories like this; unreported acts of trepidation brought on by the castigation of our combat operations in the name of nation building.

So Haditha and Abu-Ghraib have served their purpose for the leftists and the media. It comes as no surprise that we have very intelligent people in our Army and none of them wants to have their name splashed all over the media and even if they are exonerated know that their honor will be be-smirched forever.

So how many men have died for the media? There’s lots of leftist media types who will go to their graves with blood on the hands and on their souls. I only hope they receive the appropriate punishment for their denigration of the people who allowed them to sleep safe in the beds at night. And that the souls of those they had a hand in killing torment them forever.

Grim Iraqi Milestone

No - not the one you think.  Just a reflection from Harvey over at IMAO:

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The number of Iraqi citizens not killed by Saddam Hussein has reached 200,000, the U.S. military said on Monday, just days after the fifth anniversary of a war that President George W. Bush says the United States is on track to win.

The U.S. military said in a statement that the grim milestone was reached when 200 civilians were not murdered by Iraq’s tyrannical dictator late on Sunday when no large groups of people were rounded up and shot in the head for making statements critical of their government. No one was wounded in the non-attack.

The non-deaths came on a day when the very dead Uday and Qusay Hussein were unable to pick women at random to rape and slaughter, owing largely to their inability to breathe, circulate blood, or stop being eaten by bugs as their bodies rotted in the ground.

And the inevitable conclusion:

Anthony Cordesman, a respected Iraq analyst at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said he believes, however, that the 2000,000th non-death could trigger another wave of ears-covered, eyes-closed “la-la-la-I-can’t-hear-you” from those who oppose the war.

Treason Charges to Soon Be Filed?

Let’s put it this way - they ought to be. Three US Congressmen who took Saddam’s money to come and try and support his murderous regime. I guess its impossible to actually get treason charges filed any more. If they didn’t send Hanoi Jane to Old Sparky for her Vietnam shenanigans, what is the big deal about three traitors going to help a killer like Saddam?

However, let’s name them clearly:

Democrat -  Jim McDermott of Washington

Democrat - David Bonior of Michigan

Democrat - Mike Thompson of California

Here’s the sordid details so far:

Saddam Hussein’s intelligence agency secretly financed a trip to Iraq for three U.S. lawmakers during the run-up to the U.S.-led invasion, federal prosecutors said Wednesday. The three anti-war Democrats made the trip in October 2002, while the Bush administration was trying to persuade Congress to authorize military action against Iraq. While traveling, they called for a diplomatic solution.

Prosecutors say that trip was arranged by Muthanna Al-Hanooti, a Michigan charity official, who was charged Wednesday with setting up the junket at the behest of Saddam’s regime. Iraqi intelligence officials allegedly paid for the trip through an intermediary and rewarded Al-Hanooti with 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil.

The lawmakers are not named in the indictment but the dates correspond to a trip by Democratic Reps. Jim McDermott of Washington, David Bonior of Michigan and Mike Thompson of California. None was charged and Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd said investigators “have no information whatsoever” any of them knew the trip was underwritten by Saddam.

I was just following my leftist orders:

Both McDermott and Thompson are popular among liberal voters in their reliably Democratic districts for their anti-war views. Bonior is no longer in Congress.

As US Troops Succeed, Media Retreats from Iraq Stories

Not really surprising, but the disappearance of Iraq from the front pages and the newscasts is predictable as the situation improves in America’s favor.
clipped from www.mrc.org

After months of improving security in Iraq, the big network morning shows on Friday cited one horrific suicide bombing as proof that “mayhem and misery are back in Baghdad,” as CBS correspondent Mark Strassmann put it. But over the last five months, the broadcast networks have consistently reduced their coverage of Iraq, as if the story of American success in Iraq is less worthy of attention than their old mantra of American failure in Iraq.
On all three networks, however, journalists are admitting that the U.S. strategy is yielding success. “As a new year begins, overall violence is falling and hope seems to be rising,” fill-in anchor Harry Smith announced on the January 1 CBS Evening News.

Democrats in Denial

We are not arguing that one had to agree with the surge or the Bush decision to go into Iraq. Dissent is a deep tradition in U.S. politics, and this war has become a bitter subject.
It is evident, though, that the opposition to Iraq after the Democrats won control of Congress in 2006 has put these candidates in a corner. For the past year, Democrats in both the Senate and House have enforced rock-solid party opposition to every jot and tittle of the Bush policy. They now have four candidates running for the U.S. Presidency who seem to believe it is to their political advantage to deny manifest reality.

Over the past 12 months, U.S. troops in Iraq have risen every day and gone to work, dangerous work, implementing General David Petraeus’s counterinsurgency strategy. The surge. Across the political spectrum, observers have announced the surge a success. This achievement must be a source of enormous pride to the U.S. soldiers and Marines who have pulled it off.
So what we take away from the four Democratic Presidential candidates’ stunning display of misinformation and false statements about the surge Saturday evening is that they have simply stopped thinking about Iraq. They seem to have concluded that opposition to the war permits them to literally not know what the U.S. or the Iraqis are doing there. As the nation commences the selection of an American President, this is a phenomenon worth noting.
Has the self-directedness of these candidates gone so deep that they now believe they can get away with saying anything at all on national TV?

Obama and the Childish Left

Hillary’s fall from grace has been amazingly quick, because the Dems — the Party of the Needy, those who Crave to be Cared For, the Emotional Victims — they have all found a new fuzzy toy to cling to. Hillary Clinton is now yesterday’s toy, lying discarded on the floor. And she knows it.
clipped from www.americanthinker.com
Children often have fantasies about a Good Parent — one who loves you and takes care of you forever and ever, who forgives your transgressions whatever they may be, who demands nothing, and never, ever hurts your feelings. Obama is now the Good Parent of the childish Left — a good majority of the Dems, it would seem.
In a child’s mind the Good Parent is often played against a complementary fantasy, the Bad Parent — call them Republicans in this case. The Bad Parent stands for the sterner aspects of reality. Since Leftism is basically an infantile protest against adulthood, Republicans represent what Sigmund Freud called the Reality Principle.
Reality is the part of the world we all need to come to terms with in order to earn a living, to deal with losses in our lives, and still be productive and moral adults.
The childish Left constantly needs someone to adore — FDR, JFK, Bill Clinton before the Fall.
Meanwhile, the United States still needs a real adult to lead it through the next four or eight years. The nation is at war — though the infantile half of our population lives in denial. Benazir Bhutto was just assassinated in Pakistan, where the throw-back jihadists are eagerly looking for dirty bombs or worse. Ahmadi-Nejad just challenged the US Navy in the Strait of Hormuz with five suicide boats. Forty percent of the world’s oil goes through the bottleneck of the strait. Europe is in decline. The United Nations is hopelessly sleazy and corrupt. Almost twenty years of jihadist genocide in the Sudan continues today, with African victims galore. Kenya just exploded in an orgy of jihadist violence. Vladimir Putin is running a KGB state in Russia, threatening oil and gas cutoffs to our feckless allies in Europe. And President Bush is making a Hail Mary pass in the Middle East, hoping to make some progress by traveling there. The terrorists have promised to try to assassinate him, too.

The media aren’t interested. They’re back in the Kennedy days, swaddled in the warm blankets of their second childhood.

Boy, do we need the grownups today.
