Personally, I don’t think this is such a bad thing:

It turns out the feds have been monitoring Interstate 5 for nuclear “dirty bombs.” They do it with radiation detectors so sensitive it led to the following incident.

“Vehicle goes by at 70 miles per hour,” Giuliano told the crowd. “Agent is in the median, a good 80 feet away from the traffic. Signal went off and identified an isotope [in the passing car].”

The agent raced after the car, pulling it over not far from the monitoring spot (near the Bow-Edison exit, 18 miles south of Bellingham). The agent questioned the driver, then did a cursory search of the car, Giuliano said.

Did he find a nuke?

“Turned out to be a cat with cancer that had undergone a radiological treatment three days earlier,” Giuliano said.

Actually I’m amazed that the feds are actually doing anything.  Of course the weenies at the Seattle “Would invading my privacy in this way allow the feds to find my dope stash?” Times are wetting themselves at the thought that someone might actually be watching our borders for smuggled nuclear material.  Of course they then prove the point that monitoring might actually be good by this little nugget at the bottom of the article:

Don’t you just wonder what those two have in common besides trying to sneak into this country to kill people?  I wonder what kind of profile they might fit if we were to profile those who wanted to sneak into this country to commit mass murder?

And if they can find a cat who had a cancer treatment three days ago – just why can’t they find whole human beings who are crossing the southern border illegally?  The answer is that they could if they wanted to–they just don’t want to find those kind of people.

The Denver Public Schools continue down the path of “diversity” and degrading standards:

 More minority and poor students in Denver are being classified as highly gifted under a new system that gives extra credit to children who are economically disadvantaged or nonnative English speakers.

“It’s a much more holistic look at the kid,” said Diana Howard, principal at Polaris at Ebert, the district’s sole elementary school for the highly gifted and talented. “I wanted this system to look at much more than test scores. This is going to have a huge impact.”

All you need to hear is the world holistic.  That means its a mush-brained bunch of hippie-dippy crap dreamed up by someone who smoked a lot of dope in the 1970s and wants to implemented the stoned standard for all activities.

Here’s how it used to be done:

 Denver is the only district in the metro area that has a program specifically for “highly gifted and talented students.”

To determine who gets into the program, the district previously relied on oral tests that measure a student’s reasoning and IQ.

Here’s the new diverse way of determing that every child is above average:

To make things more equitable, the district now relies on a sum of measures to determine eligibility into the highly gifted program — cognitive tests, annual assessments, reading tests and teacher nominations. Next year, the district will consider artwork and writings.

Also, students get extra points toward entry into the program if English is their second language or if they receive federal meal benefits — a measure of poverty.

 Isn’t that special?  Can you imagine just how entitled these non-special, non English-speaking, non-gifted students will be once they graduate from this gifted program (assuming that everyone graduates of course – otherwise it might harm the student’s self-esteem)?

The money quote that encapsulates the whole thing:

We want to find the gifts that these children have, not exclude them,” she said.

Their threshold? 56 million people died in WWll, beginning a year after Neville Chamberlain, the historical epitome of political correctness, secured “peace in our time.” Apparently we have a long way to go.

Times are tough for the 27-year-old illegal immigrant and day laborer

For the most part, Rodriguez says, he’s doing what hundreds of other day laborers are doing these days: Standing around and waiting for jobs in Santa Cruz instead of actually getting them.

The bad times are trickling down to the lowest rung of the work force: the illegal labor pool, 

And somewhere in Mexico a wife and a family are having a rougher go at it than usual. 

A couple of questions:

1.  If its so tough in the US, why not go back home?  This article implies that the poor illegal hasn’t had regular work since last summer.  How in the wide wide world of sports is he able to live here?

2.  If there’s no work at home – why not?  Just when did it become America’s issue to deal with unemployed Mexicans?

And most of all this:

Labor Ready is an “employment contractor”.  Just why are they able to break the law with impunity and knowingly hire out illegals?

If this wasn’t a government agency, but instead a private company, all those in charge would be fired immediately. And yet, this is twice the success these clowns had in 2006 so its great news.Pathetic

Where is the outcry at the blatant discrimination against illegals? Oh yes, they only care about destroying America.

He found that a foreigner must present a valid visa in order to get a driver’s license in any of Mexico’s 31 states. “When it comes to foreigners, we’re a little more strict here,” said Alejandro Ru�z, director of education at the Mexican Automobile Association. That’s not so in the United States. Illegal aliens can get driver’s licenses in Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington, according to the National Immigration Law Center.

And you can already hear the excuses – they were just doing the jobs Americans wont do. We shouldn’t actually enforce our laws, it will just make them angry. Social security number verification is racist. Citizenship verification is racist. Everything is racist.

Much of the investigation centered on the airport security badges issued by the Department of Aviation, said U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald. Agents found that 110 of the 134 badges issued to Ideal Staffing workers did not match the individuals who carried them, he said. According to affidavits in a complaint against Gurin and Benitez unsealed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, the applications for the 110 bogus badges listed Social Security numbers that either did not exist or belonged to other individuals, some of whom were dead. One affidavit from a temporary worker who cooperated with authorities said Benitez told him to look through a box containing about 20 airport security badges and to pick one with a picture that resembled his own face.
