Amen Brother
From Guardian Watch:
Do we really want to throw serious Conservative candidates under the bus in favor of “star power?” Since the Republicans dumped Conservative Tom McClintock because moderate Arnold Schwarzenegger was a “sure win” in the 2003 recall election, California’s Governator has moved so far Left that Grey Davis might as well have been left in charge. Sure, the man’s got an “R” after his name, but letters don’t make policies — people do. Now weak-willed Republicans propose to make the same mistake on a larger scale.
The election of our President should not be reduced to the level of a popularity contest. We’re not electing homecoming king of the local high school, but the leader of the free world. A serious party should put forth a serious candidate — one who represents the best that party has to offer. Yet I fear that the Republican party is being driven towards candidates whose only recommendation is name recognition, regardless of their qualifications or policies.
I will never vote for John McCain for anything. He has worked to limit freedom of speech. The McCain-Fiengold act might as well be called the “Stifle Dissent and Protect Politicians” act. And the result? Even Mr. “stop free speech” isn’t willing to submit to the shackles of federal campaign finance.
As for the rest – Rudy might look like a strong leader, but he’s anti-gun, pro-abortion, pro- just about anything that liberals want. Do we trust him to not cut a bunch of deals with Democrats to undermine everything conservatives have worked to do? Would he veto a bill that dismantled the Hyde amendment and mandated using tax dollars to take lives? Would he cut a deal with the amnesty-mongers and throw open the doors to the conquista of this country by Mexicans who are throw away by their own country? Would he promise the teacher’s unions tons of money and the freedom to continue their ongoing destruction of American history and identity? Is it worth the risk?
Why are we in such a rush? How about sitting back and letting the Obamagasmics and Hillaryists go further and further to the left while we find out exactly who these men are?
